OKOTOKS, AB (August 28, 2025) – The Okotoks Oilers are proud to announce the addition of Corban Knight to their staff as he takes the role of Assistant Coach and Director of Player Development.
Knight is a former Oiler, playing for the team during the 2008-2009 season while accumulating 72 points (34G, 38A) in 61 games. Before his first full season with the Green and Gold, Knight appeared in four games during the 2007-2008 season.
For many players in the BCHL, the dream is to play post-secondary hockey. Knight took that same road himself, playing four seasons with the University of North Dakota from 2009 to 2013. He would collect 146 points (52G, 94A) in 161 NCAA games. Knight earned the honour of wearing the “A” as the assistant captain with the University of North Dakota in his final two seasons.
Knight would go on to play in the NHL and AHL after completing University, suiting up for 70 games with the Abbotsford Heat (Calgary Flames affiliate, AHL) while posting 45 points (18G, 27A) during the 2013-2014 season. He would also join the Flames for seven games during that campaign, adding his first-ever NHL goal in the process.
For the next five seasons, Knight would split time between the AHL and NHL with the Calgary Flames, Florida Panthers, Philadelphia Flyers, Adirondack Flames, San Antonio Rampage, Portland Pirates, and Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
International hockey is no stranger to Knight, as he played in the 2022 Olympic Games for Canada, three seasons in Russia with Avangard Omsk in the KHL and finished his career in Switzerland with SC Bern in the NL.
Knight’s experience is valuable, and the Oilers are excited to have him on board as the 2025-2026 BCHL season nears.
