OKOTOKS, AB (August 9, 2024) — The Okotoks Oilers organization is excited to announce that 2006-born forward Brett Wilson (Calgary, AB) has committed to attend Bemidji State University.
Wilson, 18, collected 24 goals and 46 points in 64 games in his first full season with the Oilers, including nine goals and 17 points in 20 BCHL contests. He was named the Oilers’ Rookie of the Year for the 2023-24 season.
The 5’8″, 160-pound forward added one goal and three points in 10 playoff games as the Oilers defeated the Spruce Grove Saints before falling to the Brooks Bandits in the 2024 BCHL Alberta Division playoffs.
“Brett established himself as one of our top offensive players in his rookie season, combining his talent, energy, and hockey IQ to become a consistent difference-maker in our lineup,” Oilers head coach and GM Tyler Deis said Friday. “We are excited to watch him continue to grow in the years to come and will wish him all the best when he eventually heads to Bemidji State.”
Wilson made his Oilers debut in the 2022-23 season as an affiliate from the U18 AAA Calgary Flames, collecting one assist in six AJHL games with the club. He played for the AAA Flames at both the 2023 Circle K Classic and the 2023 Telus Cup, racking up four points in nine games over the two tournaments.
After ranking 10th on the Oilers in scoring prior to the club’s transition into the BCHL in January 2024, Wilson tied for the team goal-scoring lead over his 20 BCHL games and finished fifth in points. He scored a career-high four points (including his first Oilers hat trick) in an 11-4 victory over the Olds Grizzlys on December 29, 2023.
The Bemidji State Grizzlys are coached by Tom Serratore and play out of the 4,700-seat Sanford Center in Bemidji, MN. They have been members of the NCAA’s Central Collegiate Hockey Association since 2021.
