Oilers fall 8-2 to Brooks in Game 5 loss to forget

BROOKS, AB (April 26, 2024) — After Jackson Rowland (Calgary, AB) opened the scoring just 40 seconds into the first period, the Okotoks Oilers conceded seven consecutive goals and ultimately fell to the Brooks Bandits by an 8–2 final in Friday’s playoff game at Centennial Regional Arena.

Sam Hall (Far Hills, NJ) also scored for the Oilers, which moved to the brink of elimination in their BCHL Alberta Division playoff series against the Bandits. The Oilers now trail three games to two heading into Sunday’s Game 6 at Okotoks Centennial Arena.

Brooks goaltender Johnny Hicks stopped 23 of the 25 shots he faced in the victory for Brooks, which scored eight goals on 41 shots in the contest. Logan Sawyer led the way with a hat trick for the hosts.

Nic DeGraves, Ethan Beyer, Parker Lalonde, Mirko Buttazzoni, and Danylo Korzhelytski also scored for Brooks. Nick Peluso and Caelan Fitzpatrick added a pair of assists in the victory.

The Oilers will head home for Sunday’s game looking to avoid being eliminated in six games by the Bandits for the second consecutive season. Just last year, the Oilers gave the Bandits their toughest test on their road to the Centennial Cup.

Tickets are still available for Game 6 between the Oilers and Bandits at tickets.okotoksoilers.com. If necessary, Game 7 of the series will take place in Brooks on Tuesday, April 30.
