Okotoks, AB (February 5, 2026) – The Okotoks Oilers Organization gives thanks to Brett Wilson (Calgary, AB) for three hard seasons of dedication, sacrifice, leading by example, and exemplifying what it means as well as takes to be a member of the Green and Gold as he takes his talents to the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL.
Wilson, who wore the captain “C” with pride this season, will now be joining a former teammate in Manitoba from last season, as Ryan Boyce (Calgary, AB) joined Brandon at the start of the season.
The 2025-2026 season wasn’t the first time Wilson was acknowledged for his leadership qualities, as he wore the “A” last season after producing a phenomenal rookie season with the Oilers from 2023-2024. In Wilson’s rookie season with the Green and Gold, he would produce 46 points (24G, 22A) in 64 games played. During the postseason of his rookie season, he would help the Oilers push the Bandits to a game seven, as his huge hit on Quinn McCall got the bench going as they headed into overtime, which saw the Oilers’ then captain, Dean Spak (Calgary, AB), become the hero. Wilson would produce three points in the playoffs with a goal and two assists.

While the 2023-2024 season marked Wilson’s rookie season, he would wear the Green and Gold uniform six times during the 2022-2023 season, which clearly impressed Oilers Head Coach and GM Tyler Deis, along with his coaching staff, as Wilson was a mainstay on the roster for the past three seasons.
During the 2024-2025 season, Wilson would post strong numbers and was relied on heavily as his role with the team continued to grow after proving he could handle the load by potting 11 goals and 16 assists in 54 games during the Oilers’ first full season in the BCHL.
The league took notice of Wilson’s top-end play this season as he earned the honour of playing in the BCHL College Prospects All-Star Game. “Willy,” as his teammates call him, proved he belonged in the dance by producing a highlight reel primary assist on Edvin Nilsson’s second-period marker. Wilson had control of the top spot in points with the Oilers throughout this season, as he finished with nearly a point per game with 32 points (11G, 21A) in 36 games played.

Wilson will be the first to tell you that he’s the last to look at point production and always credits the team with helping him achieve his success. Not only was Wilson a leader on the ice and in the locker room, but he also gave his time to the community inside and outside the rink. From helping around the community by bagging up groceries, helping out with coaching the youth, taking his time after games to talk to every fan that wanted to pick his brain, to spending time with future Oilers who come to the rink and idolize their favourite members of the Green and Gold.
While there is a laundry list of things Wilson did for the organization, one thing anyone could always count on when running into Wilson is being met with his big smile. It didn’t matter if you were a fan for 20 years or it was your first game, Wilson always gave out his time to anyone who wanted it.

The Okotoks Oilers Organization wishes Wilson all the best and nothing but good fortune as he moves forward with his hockey career in Brandon.
