Okotoks, AB (July 29, 2026) – The Okotoks Oilers have announced that they have made a trade with the Powell River Kings that sends 2007-born defenceman Joey Gugino (Buffalo, NY) and recently acquired 2006-born forward Brec Christenson (Edmonton, AB) in exchange for 2007-born forward Eliot Compton (Victoria, BC), 2007-born defenceman Tyler Russell (Redondo Beach, CA), and 2006-born forward Jacob WIngfield (Danbury, CT).
Compton has made his presence known in the BCHL, as he hit career highs in goals, assists, and points last season with 58 markers (28G, 30A) in 49 games with Powell River during the 2025-2026 season. Compton played his first season in the BCHL with the West Kelowna Warriors during 2023-2024, posting three goals and seven assists in 50 games, and then split his time with the Warriors and Kings during the 2024-2025 season, where he added 15 points (9G, 6A) in 53 games.
Before coming over to the BCHL, Compton suited up with the Shawnigan Lake School Prep, where he posted impressive numbers, including his 2022-2023 season, when he accumulated 54 points (22G, 32A) in 27 games for the U17 Prep.
Russell made his way to the BCHL last season after playing in 27 games for the Wenatchee Wild of the WHL during the 2024-2025 campaign, where he potted a goal and two assists. Last season, Russell split his time between the Coquitlam Express and the Kings, playing in 22 games for each team. He would post a combined 10 points (3G, 7A) for Powell River and the Express. Russell grew up playing for the Los Angeles Jr. Kings and finished off strong with the organization as he posted a combined 31 points (13G, 18A) during his U16 AAA season from 2023-2024.
Wingfield comes to the Green and Gold after two seasons in the BCHL, splitting time with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs, Langley Rivermen, and Powell River Kings, while also appearing for the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL. In those two seasons in the BCHL, Wingfield has suited up for 73 games and has accumulated 18 points (11G, 7A). Before making his jump to the BCHL, Wingfield played for the Kerry Park Islanders and was teammates with former Okotoks Oiler Eric Young (Mill Bay, BC) during the 2022-2023 season.
The Oilers, who recently acquired Brec Christenson exactly a month ago from the Sherwood Park Crusaders for Nate Porter (Hingham, MA) and future considerations, will now join his former coach in Sherwood, Brennan Menard, in Powell River.
The Okotoks Oilers thank Gugino for his hard work and dedication this past season. Gugino posted 21 points (2G, 19A) in 53 games for the Green and Gold during the 2025-2026 BCHL season after coming over from the Long Island Gulls.
