Okotoks, AB (June 29, 2026) – The Okotoks Oilers have announced they have made a deal with the Sherwood Park Crusaders, which sends 2006-born forward Nate Porter (Hingham, MA) and the rights to 2006-born forward Jacob Goudreau (St. Albert, AB) to Sherwood Park in exchange for 2006-born forward Brec Christenson (Edmonton, AB).
Christenson, who stands at 6’1 suited up for the Crusaders 18 times last season, posted four points (2G, 2A) and shut things down defensively for Sherwood Park. The Oilers saw Christenson play on the opposite side of the ice twice last season, including another two times during the 2024-2025 BCHL season, where he posted two assists in 20 games played and caught the attention of the Green and Gold coaching staff.
Head Coach and GM of the Oilers, Tyler Deis, was impressed with what he has seen from Christenson and believes he will add value to the 2026-2027 Okotoks Oilers squad.
“Brec brings a full 200-foot game; he’s a guy that we feel can help disrupt teams’ offence while also bringing leadership to our group,” Deis said.
Christenson would also appear in 20 games for the Drumheller Dragons, the same team Goudreau is currently signed to, during the 2025-2026 season. He would accumulate nine points (5G, 4A) in 20 games and then pop off in the playoffs with eight points (1G, 7A) in 11 games.
He made the jump to junior hockey during the 2024-2025 season, where he posted 38 points (12G, 26A) in 36 games with the Edmonton U18 AAA Jr. Oilers before getting a taste of the juniors with three games with the Crusaders and a single game with the Bonnyville Pontiacs.
Christenson is also currently committed to playing NCAA Division I hockey with Minnesota State University next season.
“We are excited to add him to our group and believe he will be an asset to what we are building here for next season,” Deis added.
The Okotoks Oilers wish Porter the best and thank him for all his hard work last season.
