Okotoks, AB (December 16, 2025) – The Okotoks Oilers are proud to announce that 2005-born forward, Michael Kowalski (Chicago, IL), has received the honours of BCHL’s First Star of the Week after a monster weekend.
Kowalski, who couldn’t buy a goal at the start of the season as he was hit with some tough luck, has come on fire this past weekend as he found the back of the net three times during the two games played, while accumulating three assists on top of the goals to finish the weekend with six points.
Friday night in Sherwood Park, Kowalski gave the Oilers a chance to come away with the win as he scored two goals in the third period, including the game-tying goal late in the frame, to help earn the Oilers a point by sending the game to overtime. “Wally,” as his teammates call him, finished the night with three points (2G,1A) and followed it up with another three-point night (1G, 2A) on Saturday against the Vernon Vipers.

Before the weekend, Kowalski had only earned three points in a game once during last season, making this past weekend the most points he has accumulated over a weekend in the BCHL, as well as tying his career high with points in a game while playing in the BCHL. The last time Kowlaski had a three-point night prior to this past weekend dates back to exactly a year ago, as he posted his first career BCHL hat trick on December 14, 2024, against the Spruce Grove Saints.
With the six-point weekend, Kowalski now sits in third spot for most points on the team with 18 (5G, 13A), just behind Michael Mikan (Edina, MN) with 24 (10G, 14A) and Oilers team captain Brett Wilson (Calgary, AB) with 26 (9G, 17A).
Kowalski has turned it on since November 15, 2025, as he has posted 12 points (5G, 7A) in the past nine games.
The Chicago-born forward will look to continue his hot hands this weekend as the Oilers will travel to Cranbrook and Trail to close out the final games of December, as the BCHL will shut down for the holidays and resume at the start of 2026.
