Meet the 2024-25 Oilers: Joey Meredith

OKOTOKS, AB (September 2, 2024) — The Okotoks Oilers are excited to welcome 2005-born forward Joey Meredith (Toledo, OH) to our organization for the 2024-25 season.

Meredith, 19, is primed to make his BCHL debut after spending the past four seasons in the Detroit Victory Honda organization. The 5’10”, 165-pound forward played with the U18 AAA Victory Honda team at the 2024 Circle-K Classic in Calgary.

“I started really young in my hometown of Toledo and kind of just built my way up,” Meredith said Monday. “A couple of years ago, I was playing in Toronto at St. Andrew’s College — Coach Deis came out, I talked to him, had a good conversation. Since then, I knew this is a place I would get to play, and I fell in love with it.”

In 70 games with the U18 AAA Victory Honda team during the 2023-24 regular season, Meredith collected a team-leading 105 points (37 goals, 68 assists). He also amassed eight goals and 18 points in six games at the Circle-K Classic.

“It’s cool coming out here, knowing no one, and it’s good. The boys are great so far, so it’s gonna be fun,” Meredith said. “I want to just grow as a player, get bigger, stronger, faster, and just contribute to the team as much as I can, and hope to win some games along the road.”

The Oilers are slated to play their first game of the 2024 BCHL preseason on Saturday, September 7, when they take on the Sherwood Park Crusaders at Viking Rentals Centre in Okotoks at 8:05 p.m. MT.
