Green stops 37 of 39 but Oilers fall narrowly in Spruce Grove

SPRUCE GROVE, AB (March 9, 2024) — Christian Green (Boothwyn, PA) put on a stellar performance, making 37 saves on 39 shots, but the Okotoks Oilers saw a 1-0 second period lead evaporate en route to a 3-1 loss to the host Spruce Grove Saints on Saturday night.

A scoreless first saw the Oilers outshoot the Saints 11-10, but Spruce Grove would outshoot Okotoks 30-14 the rest of the way. Despite the tilted ice, Okotoks opened the scoring in the second when Dean Spak tipped home a Brody Maguire point shot.

But the Saints tied it late in the second on a power play goal from Evan Sundar, and took the lead on a rebound goal by Ashton Hutchinson in the third. Stephen Kirkpatrick scored the empty netter late in the third to seal it.

The Oilers will return to action at home Friday night hosting the Sherwood Park Crusaders.
