Former Oiler leads Vees over Okotoks in game two

OKOTOKS, AB (April 6, 2025) – The Okotoks Oilers have yet to find the back of the net in the 2025 Rogers BCHL playoffs as they fell 5-0 in game two against the Penticton Vees in their first-round seven-game series on Sunday night (April 6).

While the Oilers have yet to get on the scoreboard, the Vees have accumulated nine goals in the two games. Olivier Ciarlo (Laval, QB) has been a rock in the backend for the Oilers in the series making 35 saves on 40 shots in his second start against the Vees in the first-round series. Ciarlo wouldn’t allow a goal until the second period. after making 12 saves in the first period. The Vees outshot the Oilers 40-14 at the end of regulation.

Will Ingemann who has back-to-back shutouts against the Oilers sat game two out as Ethan Buenaventura made the start for the Vees and finished the game with a shutout of his own.

Former Okotoks Oiler and current captain for the Vees picked up his first two points of the series with two primary assists to stumble the Green and Gold in game two.

Simon Meier picked up where he left off as he scored the final goal in game one and then added the opening goal just over a minute into the second period in game two. Ryden Evers who picked up the game-winning goal in game one picked up his first point of three on the night with an assist on Meier’s goal.

Luke Posthumus added to the Vees lead over 10 minutes later with Hellyer picking up his first point of the series with an assist.

The third period would see the Vees pick up two goals just over a minute apart with Posthumus adding his second goal of the night with Hellyer grabbing the assist. Eli McKamey who was awarded the first-ever player in the BCHL to receive Exceptional Player Status picked up his first-ever BCHL postseason point with the secondary assist. Tristan Peterson collected his first goal of the playoffs to give the Vees a 4-0 lead in the third.

Peterson wasn’t done as he added his second goal of the night at 11:16 into the third period. Evers picked up his third point of the night with an assist on the 5-0 goal.

Since the Oilers 4-3 overtime win against the Vees, Penticton has outscored Okotoks 17-0 in three games.

Game three is set for 7:00 p.m. MDT at Viking Rentals Centre on Tuesday as the Oilers look to climb back in the series.
