The Okotoks Oilers of the BCHL are proud to announce that 2007-born defenceman Brennen Hocher (Calgary, AB) has committed to attend and play for the University of Nebraska Omaha.
Located in Omaha, Nebraska, the UNO Mavericks play in the NCAA’s Division I National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) under 7th-year head coach Mike Gabinet.
Hocher, 16, joined the Oilers early in the 2023-24 season after beginning the year on the Edge School’s U18 prep squad and playing as an affiliate with the Oilers. In 35 games with the team this year, Hocher has recorded nine points (3 goals, 6 assists) with 31 penalty minutes and a +4 rating.
“Brennen gave our team some much-needed security when he joined our roster full time earlier this year, and he’s blossomed into a solid contributor at the junior level ever since,” said Oilers head coach and general manager Tyler Deis.
“His dedication, coachability, and positive personality have fit in extremely well with our group, and he’s continued to demonstrate the high potential he has both with us and at the college level. We couldn’t be happier for Brennen and his family on the commitment to UNO.”
Hocher was the CSSHL’s Scholastic Player of the Year in 2021-22 while playing on the Edge’s U15 Prep team, a year in which he also competed at the Alberta Cup. The 6’2”, 185lb defenceman is the twelfth player on the Oilers’ current roster committed to an NCAA Division I school, eleven of whom committed while they were an Okotoks Oiler:
