OKOTOKS, AB (July 4, 2025) – The Okotoks Oilers have acquired 2005-born forward Josh Wiebe (Calgary, AB) from the Trail Smoke Eaters in exchange for 2006-born forward Otto Hanson (Calgary, AB).
Wiebe split his time with the Brooks Bandits and the Smoke Eaters last season, picking up 11 points (4G, 7A) in 27 games during the 2024-2025 BCHL season. During the 2023-2024 season, Wiebe played his first full Junior A season with the Bandits, accumulating 22 points (5G, 17A) in 41 games and adding a goal and an assist in five playoff games.
Wiebe played for the Calgary Flames U18 AAA squad before making the jump to junior hockey. He suited up twice for the Okotoks Oilers in the 2021-2022 season while playing for the Flames. In Wiebe’s two seasons with the Flames, he posted 101 points (30G, 71A) in 76 combined games. During the post-season with the Flames, Wiebe had a combined 29 points (9G, 20A) in 16 games.
“Josh brings some size to our forward group. His veteran presence and play-making ability will be a great addition to our team,” said Oilers GM and head coach, Tyler Deis.
Hanson, who was originally acquired from the Blackfalds Bulldogs before the start of the 2024-2025 season, suited up for 30 games while donning the Green and Gold.
Hanson, who provided the Oilers with a strong physical style of hockey, also contributed on the scoreboard with his 12 points (5G, 7A), including a game-winning goal on October 18, 2024, against the Coquitlam Express, and finished the night with three points (1G, 2A).

The Oilers are excited to announce the new addition of Wiebe to the organization. They would like to thank Hanson for his contributions to the 2024-2025 BCHL season, as well as wishing him the best moving forward in his hockey career.
