FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Okotoks, Alberta, November 2, 2009.
The Okotoks Oilers Junior ‘A’ Hockey Club, are pleased to announce the results of their breast cancer fundraiser, held October 16 & 18.
During the weekend of October 16-18, the Oilers held their first annual breast cancer fundraiser. Highlights of the fundraiser included special pink edition jerseys worn by the Oilers for the weekend and raffle prizes. Oiler’s Marketing Manager Dallas Hand says “We were overwhelmed by the support of local businesses who graciously donated raffle items as well as our loyal fan base who participated in the donations and silent auction, we are proud to be part of the foothills community.”
Over the weekend event, the Oilers were able to raise $5,100 to donate to the Alberta Cancer Foundation to benefit breast cancer research.
The Oilers were also able to benefit two other charities with their event. One jersey was donated to the Okotoks Safeway and was auctioned off to benefit the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
On Friday, October 16, the Oilers were also pleased to host 9 year old Rebecca-Lynn Worrall, from Okotoks, to help her with her breast cancer fundraiser. She had been growing her hair out for 5 years, and during a special 2nd intermission ceremony, had her hair cut off to donate to the Children’s Cancer Foundation. “When we heard about Rebecca’s cause, it fit in perfect with our weekend fundraiser, and we were thrilled we could include her in the event. We were able to help Rebecca reach her goal of raising over $1,000 in pledges.”
The fans were also treated to two wins on the weekend, including a double overtime thriller on Sunday afternoon.
Thank you to all the businesses and fans for their support over the event.
