The Okotoks Oilers opened their 2009/10 preseason on Tuesday night at the Okotoks Centennial Arena. With most of the veterans sitting in the crowd looking dapper in their suits, the newbies hit the ice against the Calgary Canucks.
Goaltenders Michael Matyas and Mathiew Laberge both played half of the game. With a total of 43 shots, they were kept busy and looked good.
Five returnees did play in the game, with John McInnis netting the only Okotoks goal of the night.
The Calgary Canucks were playing in their third preseason game and were still looking for their first win. With this 3-1 win over the Oilers, the Canucks looked more seasoned and had the powerplay advantage throughtout most of the game, scoring 2 PP goals.
The Okotoks Oilers now move over to the Max Bell Arena on Wednesday night for the return match against the Canucks, then return home for a tilt against the Olds Grizzlys on Thursday night.
Road matches against the Calgary Royals at the Edge School on Friday night and a game in Olds on Saturday completes the Oilers 2009/10 preseason.
The regular season starts on Saturday, September 12 with 2 roads games, then the home opener on September 18 against the Olds Grizzlys.
