Game 4 of the best of 7 series against the Okotoks Oilers and the Canmore Eagles was held at the Canmore Recreation Center on Thursday night with Okotoks winning 4 to 1 and evening up the series at 2 games a piece.
The Oilers came out in the first period putting a ton of pressure on the Eagles and forces Canmore to take an early penalty. On the penalty at 4:24, Matt Strong gets a good shot away from the right side that finds it's way into the Canmore net for a powerplay goal and a 1 to 0 Oiler lead. The Oilers then take a penalty but don't allow Canmore even a shot on goal. Oiler goalie Sean Cahill stops Canmores Cody Cartier on a breakaway with a quick pad save midway through the period. A second powerplay for the Oilers doesn't produce a goal, but they put enormous pressure on the Eagles through out it. At 14:44, Derek Rodwell is awarded a penalty shot while killing a penalty after being interferred on a breakaway, but Eagles goalie Sam Brittain stands tall and makes the save. The Oilers stop a late Canmore powerplay and go into the intermission with a 1 to 0 lead. A very dominant period by the Okotoks Oilers as the Oilers outshoot the Eagles 17 to 7.
Canmore starts the second period on the powerplay and while the Oilers kill it off, they allow Eagles Kory Roy to skate across the Oilers goal crease and pounces on a rebound from an Adam Stephen shot and puts it in the net to tie the game at 2:04. Okotoks go on a powerplay of their own at 5:23 and it's Ben Gamache that passes from down low to Chris Korpach and puts it behind Brittain at 6:28 and the Oilers go ahead 2 to 1. The Oilers then get an extended 2 man advantage powerplay and apply tremendous pressure on Canmore, but fail to extend their lead. At 17:31, Jordan Principalli does a good job at keeping the puck in the Eagles end and sends the puck towards the net. Nolan Huysmans is in front of Sam Brittain and receives the pass and Brittain makes the save but Nolan gets his own rebound and swipes the puck in the net. The period ends with the Oilers up by a 3 to 1 score and they outshoot Canmore 18 to 13.
Once again the Canmore Eagles start a period on the powerplay but the Oilers manage to kill it off. At 5:56, Jonathan Turk sends a pass back to the Eagles blueline for Brad Ryan who gets a shot off towards the net and it's Cody Dion that is planted to the side of Brittain and scores for a 4 to 1 Oilers lead. Oiler forward Chris Duszynski gets drilled into the boards with 5:55 left to play and that results in a heated exchange with the players on the ice. The Oilers hold off the Eagles for the rest of the way and go on to a 4 to 1 win. Canmore peppered Cahill with 16 shots in the period with the Oilers getting 11 on Sam Brittain.
