Okotoks opened the scoring in this important game 3 when Kyle Reynolds scores on a low slapshot from the right side at 1:50 of the first period to put the Oilers up 1 to 0. Brett Adnum and Thomas Stachiw go head to head with Stachiw winning the round. Jeff Barrett gets his bell rung and goes to the dressing room midway through the period. The Oilers have the territorial edge in the period, but go to the dressing room up by only 1. Oilers outshoot the Eagles 13 to 10.
Canmore burns the Oilers with 3 goals in the second period and it starts at 2:02 of the second period. The Eagles pull even with the Oilers when Bryden McGhee shoots through a screen that beats Oiler goalie Sean Cahill high on his blocker side. Just 2 1/2 minutes later the Eagles take the lead when Jordan Bauer wacks at a loose puck in the crease that goes into the Oiler net and its 2 to 1 for Canmore. At 13:00, Sean Cahill attempts to clear the puck up the boards, but the puck gets cutoff by Eagle Tyler Horton and his shot trickles through into the Oiler net for a 3 to 1 Canmore lead. Oilers outshoot Canmore 14 to 11.
The Oilers press in the third period for goals and test Eagle goalie Sam Brittain on a number of occasions but it takes until 13:40 of the period for the Oilers to pull within 1 when defenseman Quinn Sproule scores on a quick pass and it's 3 to 2 for Canmore. Good up and down hockey follows after the goal then good pressure by the Oilers causes an Eagles penalty late in the period. The Oilers pull Cahill for a 2 man advantage but fail to score and the game ends with Canmore winning 3 to 2. Both teams had 11 shots on goal in the period.
Game notes: Oilers scratches were Chris Korpach, Rhett Holland and James Bannister. Jeff Barrett did not return to the game after the first period hit on him. Oilers outshoot the Eagles in the game 38 to 32. Oiler gamestar was Kyle Reynolds. No powerplay goals in the game for either team. Oilers were 0 for 6 and the Eagles were 0 for 5.
