Oilers awarded scholarships at annual AJHL Banquet

 The Alberta Junior Hockey League in partnership with the Friends of Alberta Junior Hockey Society announced the 2010 League Scholarship recipients at the annual Scott Safety AJHL Scholarship Banquet in Fort McMurray, Alberta on Saturday, January 30 2010.

  Twenty-four scholarships totalling over $35,000, which range in value from $1,500 – $2,000 apiece, were awarded at the annual event.

 Seventeen AJHL players, game officials and Alumni were awarded a Friends of Alberta Junior Hockey Society Scholarship.  

 The Friends of Alberta Junior Hockey Society Scholarships are awarded to the players, game officials and therapists who distinguish themselves in their pursuit of academic and athletic excellence.

 Two players from the Okotoks Oilers were awarded a Friends of Alberta Junior Hockey Society Scholarships. There were;

 Defenseman #7 Rhett Holland and Goalie #31 Micheal Matyas.

 They will be presented with their respective scholarships at the February 12th. home game against the Brooks Bandits.

 Congratulations to Rhett and Michael.

 The Friends of scholaAlberta Junior Hockey Society scholarship program has provided $500,000 in scholarships since the program began in the early 1980s.  

 In recent years the scholarships have expanded to include AJHL Alumni, Athletic Trainers and On-Ice Officials in addition to current players.
