The six game series between the Camrose Kodiaks and Okotoks Oilers in the 2009/10 season will finish with the Camrose Kodiaks winning the season series 4 games to 2 after the Kodiaks defeat our Oilers 3 to 2 on Thursday at the Edgeworth Centre in Camrose.
Scoring for the Oilers were Jeff Barrett and Derek Rodwell.
At the :20 second mark of the first period, Derek Rodwell cuts across the Kodiaks net and gets a shot on net, and the rebound comes out to Jeff Barrett who scores his 8th of the year to make the score 1-0. Shortly after the goal, the Oilers go on a 7 minute powerplay after Oiler Brad Ryan shows great restraint in a roughing situation but the team fails to score. Camrose then fails on a powerplay chance of their own. Kyle Reynolds to John McInnis on a 2 on 1 late in the period gave the Oilers their best chance of the period but the period ends 1 to 0 for Okotoks. Oilers outshoot the Kodiaks 14 to 10.
Camrose pull even at the 5:22 mark of the second period when Mike Forsyth goes behind the net and comes out with a shot directed towards the net and the puck hits a skate and goes in behind Sean Cahill for his 10th. goal of the year. A powerplay goal by Luke Challier of the Kodiaks at 7:34 from a hard shot at the circle dot to the right of Cahill goes in the net for a 2 to 1 Camrose lead. The Oilers then fail on a powerplay opportunity and a few minutes later the Kodiaks hit the crossbar coming down on a 2 on 1 to keep the score 2 to 1 for Camrose. A late powerplay by the Oilers produces nothing as Camrose do a great job in controlling the play and the period end with Camrose up 2 to 1. Okotoks outshoot Camrose 9 to 7 in the period.
The Oilers have a good start to the third period and show good jump helped in part by an early powerplay but fail to tie the game. A hard shot from the right point by Cory Kloss at 9:44 blows by Cahill for his first goal of the season and Camrose jumps out to a 3 to 1 lead. Derek Rodwell gets his 14th. goal of the season at 13:37 when he races down the right side and cuts towards goalie Dalyn Flette and scores to the short glove side to make the score 3 to 2 Camrose.
