Oilers split a pair of games on the weekend.

Oilers split a pair of games on the weekend.

The Okotoks Oilers lost a Friday night game to the Grand Prairie Storm by a 6 to 3 score, but came back the next night to down the Brooks Bandits 3-2.

On Friday night the Oilers fell behind 4-1 after the first period and were unable to rally back to within striking distance of the much faster and more focused Grand Prairie Storm. Okotoks were unable to stop the league's leading scorer Zahn Raubenheimer, who scored the hat trick for the Storm. Cody Dion did score twice for the Oilers with a single going to John McInnis.

The next night the Brooks Bandits paid a visit to the Okotoks Centennial Arena and while the Bandits managed to come away with a point, the Oilers got the full 2 by virtue of a 3-2 OT win. Brandon Hoogenboom scored his 17th. of the season, his 51st. as an Oiler to beat the previous individual goal scoring record of 50 by Carter Madson. It was John McInnis who scored the winning OT goal, his second game winning goal against the Bandits in the past two games.

Okotoks has moved up in the standing this past week and now stand tied for third with the Canmore Eagles, 2 points behind Brooks with still 2 games in hand. The Oilers will hit the halfway mark of the season when they play their next game.

The Oilers are now off on their longest road trip of the season, and it all starts this Wednesday where they take on the Calgary Royals at the Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary.

The Oilers continue northward for 3 games in 3 nights. Friday in Lloydminster with their new coach, ex Brooks leader Brian Curran, Saturday night in Spruce Grove with the league leading Saints, and then Sunday afternoon in Sherwood Park to close out this busy weekend.

The guys return home for their next home game on Friday, December 11th.
