Oilers earn 3 of 4 possible points on the weekend.

Oilers earn 3 of 4 possible points on the weekend.

The Okotoks Oilers headed up North this past weekend for two road games and managed to come away with 3 well earned points of a possible 4.

First it was the Grand Prairie Storm on Friday night. The Oilers managed to  contain the high scoring team for the most part. Oiler goalie Sean Cahill had a great game, making 42 saves, many of them of the highlight variety. Oiler Jonathan Turk scored his 5th. goal of the year in the second period, but the team could not score again and eventually fell 2-1 in double overtime for a single point in the standing. Holding the high scoring Storm to 2 goals was a feat in itself considering they have the top 3 scores in the league.

Saturday night the team moved onto Drayton Valley for a game against the Thunder and the team found their scoring touch. John McInnis scored 2, with singles going to Rodger Craig, Brandon Hoogenboom, Cody Dion and Oiler newcomers Chris Korpach and Justin Cochrane. Okotoks did give up 4 goals, but won 7 to 4.

Brandons second period goal on Saturday night was his 16th. goal of the year and ties him with Carter Madson (06-08) for the most career goals scored as an Oiler with 50.

The 3 points earned on the weekend gives the Oilers 14 wins, 11 loses and 1 OT loss for 29 points, good enough for 5th. place in the AJHL South standings with 26 games played, just 3 points behind Canmore and Brooks.

The Okotoks Oilers head across to highway 9 to Drumheller for a game on Tuesday night at 7:30. This is the rescheduled game from Sunday, November 1st.  Then the team plays a couple of homegames this weekend before they start their longest road trip of the year.
